«86» IFFU to Kick off on May 9th in Slavutych

The opening ceremony will feature special guests, the Kyiv punk-electro star Space Spice Boy and the Chernihiv orchestra of the ground troops military-musical centre, Armed Forces of Ukraine, performing a joint programme. Their musical performance is supervised and arranged by Marharyta Kulichova, the frontwoman of Grisly Faye.

The opening ceremony, hosted by Marharyta Kulichova and Yuriy Marchenko, is to be held at the festival’s main location, the Slavutych city cinema and concert hall.

Göran Olsson’s documentary “Fonko” will show at the opening, with a presentation from the Swedish director himself. Two of his other works will feature at the festival – “Concerning Violence” (2014) and “Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975” (2011). Olsson will also introduce and comment on two films that influenced his vision as a director: Barbara Kopple’s “Harlan County, USA” and Andy Warhol’s “Chelsea Girls”.

The festival’s 2018 cinema programme includes 17 feature and 22 short films. 21 short films run as entries in the competition programmes: 12 will vie for the “Palm of the North’, while 9 have been selected for the MyStreetFilmsUkraine competition. 30 countries from all over Europe, Asia and the Americas are represented in the programme.

The Musical programme features 25 performers of electronic and instrumental music. The Mariupol platform TIU acts as an invited curator.

As part of the Urbanism Programme, nine artists have been hosted at the international Urban Residence – they will present the findings of their research of the city’s cultural and architectural heritage. Over 30 participants and tutors engaged in the architectural workshop are working on a festival campsite in the ditch of a lake that never came to be filled with water. The Urban School for Children offers educational programmes for the festival’s youngest guests.

The 5th festival of film and urbanism «86» is to run between May 9th and 13th.
